The Davis Family in Medicine

The First-Generation D.O.

The Davis family first entered medicine in 1924, after Elmer Davis returned from proudly serving in World War I. As he suffered from the effects of mustard gas, he grew increasingly interested in how to better manage his own illness and help others do the same, no matter the condition. He obtained his degree at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, where Dr. Andrew Taylor Still founded osteopathy in 1892.

Dr. Elmer Davis practiced from 1927 to 1974, serving the community for the remainder of his lifetime.

Elmer's son, Jack N. Davis, served in the United States Army, beginning with Chemical Warfare until he was reassigned to the 10th Mountain Infantry through the end of World War II. His war experiences inspired him to follow in his father's footsteps and become a D.O. to help others.

In 1952, he graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and began his practice in Iowa before moving to Carthage, Illinois, in 1953. He retired from practicing medicine in 1987.

Jack passed on his love of nature, fishing, medicine, and general curiosity about all things to his son, Dr. Thomas M. Davis, as well as to a young Dr. Lindsey Davis (pictured right)!

Jack's son, Thomas M. Davis, grew up surrounded by the medical field and knew he wanted to continue the family heritage of osteopathic medicine and helping others.

Dr. Davis graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in the top 10 percent of his 1986 class and was a member of the National Osteopathic Scholastic Honor Society (Psi Sigma Alpha).

Dr. Davis located his practice in Indianapolis before landing in Brownsburg, Indiana, obtaining a reputation for his strong diagnostic acumen.

He recently retired in 2023, leaving his daughter, Dr. Lindsey Davis, to carry on the family tradition of helping others find health!
