What is a D.O.?

A Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) is a fully licensed doctor who can prescribe medicine and perform surgeries, just like a Medical Doctor (M.D.). Unlike an M.D., a D.O. has additional training based on the understanding that:

  • All systems in the body are connected and affect each other.

  • The body has self-healing mechanisms.

  • Injuries, illness, and other life events can cause unnatural tension in the body, creating areas of restriction that affect the whole body, both physically and mentally.

  • The body sometimes needs outside help to support its innate healing mechanisms.

A D.O.’s extra training relates to supporting the body’s natural healing mechanisms.
